I am really looking forward to my 30th birthday* in a couple of weeks, however, it makes me a bit melancholic sometimes. Not sad, rather positive and joyfully melancholic. For example, last week I thought about myself at the age of 12 or 13, lying on my belly in front of my parents’ radio, a tape in the deck and my index finger on the record button. As soon as the moderator announced a particular song (Backstreet Boys or Spice Girls, of course!), I quickly pressed the button, always hoping to be fast enough. Most of the time I was still too slow and missed the first few beats of the song. Still, I was really happy and who cares about the intro anyway. The main thing was that I had recorded the biggest part and thus made the beginning of a very valuable collection. I repeated the whole procedure several times until I had about ten songs (with my patience, it usually took several days). I kept my treasures in a special tape suitcase and blissfully listened to them on my black Walkman or on my pink Disney cassette player.
Isn’t it crazy how listening to music has changed over the last 20 years? Today, I just grab my smartphone or laptop, turn on Spotify and I am able to listen to great songs from all around the world. On the one hand the magic got lost a bit, on the other hand thanks to those technical achievements of the past two decades, I now have the opportunity to create a wonderful playlist for myself that I can even share with you.
Last week, I did just that and put together a small collection of some of my favorite songs. I called it “Happy Cooking” because I love singing in the kitchen while I am cooking. It is so much fun to jump around in the kitchen and dance like a maniac. With just a quick click you can listen to my wonderful playlist, too! So, turn up your speakers until the pots are rattling and swing with Sia from the chandelier or let nobody stop you just like Queen.
- Sia – Clap Your Hands
- Van Halen – Why Can’t This Be Love
- Taylor Swift – I Knew You Were Trouble
- Loreen – Euphoria
- Julia Michaels – Issues
- Pentatonix – Hallelujah
- Clean Bandits ft. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie – Rockabye
- Macklemore ft. Ryan Lewis – Can’t Hold Us Down
- Ed Sheeran – I See Fire
- Sia – Chandelier
- Adele – Rolling In The Deep
- Justin Bieber – Love Yourself
- Sia – Cheap Thrills
- Queen – Don’t Stop Me Now
- La Roux – Bulletproof

If you like my playlist, I would love to hear what you guys think. Don’t be shy! A short “Yes, very nice” is great and a “You so totally rock!” would even be amazing. Anyway, have fun cooking and singing along!
*In my opinion, you are a grown-up as soon as you turn 30, even though nobody ever confirmed that
