Homemade Oven baked Apple Chips

Saturday mornings are reserved for my trip to the farmer’s market. Right now, I prefer to go to a smaller one here in the area. Every time, the scenery is almost the same except of the seasonally changing products.

The fall sun is shining down from a bright blue sky and is lighting up the small square on which the market takes place. The booths are lined up in two rows from which the colorful products of the local farmers are greeting us. Large orange pumpkins, beautiful green beans and much more seduce me again and again to load up my bags with all those healthy treats.

Last Saturday, one particular product caught my eye: the apples which are harvested right now and are fresher than fresh. I just couldn’t resist especially because they sold huge bags of the red-cheeked beauties for just $5. Those are the blemished ones, so the apples with brown spots, the bruised or the funny shaped ones. They are in no way inferior to the other apples, they only need to be cut out a bit. A minimal extra effort that doesn’t bother me at all.

Well, as you might have guessed by now, I bought one of those huge bags. In order not to drown in a whole bunch of apples, I’ve selected some gorgeous apples dishes which I’m going to make over the next few days. I’m thinking apple pancakes, I’m thinking tarte flambée with apples and I’m thinking apple chips in particular. You just have to try apple chips! Those thin, crunchy apple slices are not only delicious and easy to make, but they’re also a healthy snack which I like to enjoy in the fall afternoon sun on our back porch. Give me a bowl of apple chips, a nice cup of tea and I’m a happy kid.
